I first read about aquaponics back in 2008 in my never ending journey toward achieving greater freedom and self-reliance. This journey has been necessary for me to overcome living in a system that seems bent on making people ever more dependent and subservient to malevolent, anti-human forces. I had already heard about permaculture and was in love with that concept so naturally when I first read about aquaponics the idea immediately clicked in my mind and I was convinced this could be the answer to a lot of problems.
It took me until about this past April (2011) for me to be in a position to actually begin a serious aquaculture project. I took some video during the process so I could share the story with whomever might be interested. In this first post I will catch my readers up to where I currently am with this project and in the future I will update as I continue to make progress with some ideas I will be experimenting with.
This first video is my first attempt to recreate the Affnan autosiphon which I deemed the best way to create a flood and drain style system.
These next two videos show my brother Matt and I moving forward with the project to begin construction,
The next three videos show the construction of the Affnan autosiphons.
Final test of siphons on actual grow bed (kiddie pool)
